It has become a challenge today for some to read and transcribe cursive handwriting. Styles vary. In Colonial handwriting, different spellings were frequent and punctuation was sometimes nonexistent. Trying to make sense of handwriting to gather all-important information from court papers, census records, military documents, letters, diaries, etc. can be frustrating.
Deborah has experience deciphering handwriting. She has completed assignments for the public and also as a volunteer in transcribing handwritten documents for the National Archives and the Smithsonian.
